At Newchurch, we aim to help all our Robins to gain the confidence and ability that they need in Computing, in order to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world.

Over the course of the year and across all subjects, the children use ICT skills with meaning and purpose to enhance and extend their learning whilst developing motivation and social skills in a range of contexts.  It is vital therefore that children appreciate the relevance of this subject in our society and that they see it as an essential tool for learning, communication, finding information and for controlling and understanding their environment.

The Computing curriculum works in collaboration with Knowsley City Learning Centres and focuses on the teaching of:

·         Digital Literacy

·         Information Technology

·         Computer Science

Each cohort studies a different unit each half term and has the opportunity to use a variety of hardware and software to be investigative, creative and develop their knowledge of being safe online. Indeed, safe use of the internet is a key strand in the computing and PSHE curricula and is supported by annual Safer Internet Day activities. The school is committed to keeping the children safe and so each class completes a discrete online safety unit each year.
